Underpayment FAQ
How do I know if I am underpaid?
Compare your gross salary against the market median for your role, country and experience level. If you are more than 10–15% below the median, have gone two or more years without a real raise, and have never negotiated, you are very likely underpaid. This quiz checks all three in about 60 seconds.
What percentage of workers are underpaid?
Studies consistently suggest a large share of employees earn below market rate for their role, mostly because pay rises lag the market for people who stay put. Staying in the same job typically costs several percent per year against job switchers.
What should I do if I am underpaid?
Three moves, in order: benchmark your real market number, build a case from results you can attribute, then either negotiate internally with that case or interview externally and let a competing offer set your price. Our negotiation guide has word-for-word scripts.
