| Average gross pay, private sector (2025) | €5,195 a month | IMSEE, Les salaires dans le secteur privé en 2025 |

| Private-sector employees (December 2025) | 59,724 | IMSEE, Observatoire de l'Emploi 2025 |
The median salary in Monaco was €3,475 a month gross in 2025, and the average €5,195, for a full-time equivalent in the private sector, bonuses included, according to Monaco’s statistics office, IMSEE. Both rose over the year: the median by 4.1% (+€136) and the average by 5.4% (+€265). That puts typical pay at about €41,700 a year (our calculation, x 12), and half of all employees earn more.
Why the average is so much higher than the median
The average is pulled up by a small group of very high earners: 2.9% of employees earn more than €15,000 a month and another 3.3% between €10,000 and €15,000. The median, the salary in the middle, is the better guide to what a typical job pays. Most employees sit between €2,000 and €4,500 a month:
| Gross monthly pay (full-time equivalent) | Share of employees, 2025 |
|---|---|
| Under €2,000 | 0.7% |
| €2,000 to €2,500 | 13.6% |
| €2,500 to €3,000 | 20.1% |
| €3,000 to €3,500 | 16.3% |
| €3,500 to €4,000 | 11.0% |
| €4,000 to €4,500 | 7.7% |
| €4,500 to €5,000 | 5.6% |
| €5,000 to €6,000 | 7.7% |
| €6,000 to €10,000 | 11.1% |
| €10,000 to €15,000 | 3.3% |
| Over €15,000 | 2.9% |
From IMSEE’s salary infographic for 2025 (the €5,000 to €10,000 rows are added up from IMSEE’s €500 bands). One employee in five earns between €2,500 and €3,000 a month, the most common band.
Pay by sector
| Sector | Median gross pay a month, 2025 |
|---|---|
| Finance and insurance | €6,858 |
| Professional, scientific and technical activities | €4,697 |
| IT, telecoms and media | €4,373 |
| Real estate | €3,097 |
| Other services | €3,028 |
| Administrative and support services | €2,764 |
IMSEE publishes the three best-paid and the three lowest-paid sectors, so the other sectors fall between €3,097 and €4,373. The sector groups changed in January 2026 (the new French NAF 2025 classification), so they don’t match earlier years. The biggest employers by headcount are administrative and support services (9,627 employees, most of them through temporary work agencies) and hotels and restaurants (8,988), where one major employer groups all its casino, hotel and restaurant staff (Observatoire de l’Emploi 2025). Women and men
Women’s median pay was 4.1% (+€141) higher than men’s in 2025, but their average was 18.1% (-€1,010) lower, because few women are among the top earners: they make up 16.5% of the best-paid 1% (IMSEE).
From gross to take-home
On the median of €3,475 a month, the employee pays €460.72 in pension and unemployment contributions (13.26%), leaving €3,014.28. Residents of Monaco who aren’t French pay no income tax on that; people who live in France, about 81.5% of private-sector employees, pay French income tax. Rates and a full worked example are on tax in Monaco. The legal floor is the minimum wage, €12.31 an hour plus 5%, or about €2,184 a month for 39 hours.
How IMSEE measures pay
The figures are gross monthly salaries in euros, converted to a full-time equivalent on Monaco’s legal basis of 169 hours a month, for all private-sector jobs, part-time posts included pro rata. “Gross” means everything paid under the employment contract, bonuses included, before contributions. The source data are the Caisses Sociales de Monaco’s records. Civil servants (5,393 at the end of 2025) aren’t included.
Limits
These are official figures for the private sector as a whole and by sector; IMSEE doesn’t publish pay by job title, so there is no official figure for, say, a waiter or a private banker. Treat any job-level Monaco salary you see elsewhere as an estimate unless it comes from a published pay scale.
