Over a year that’s £20,280 full time. The rate is set by Order under Gibraltar’s employment law, and the 2026 rise of 5.26% was announced in the Chief Minister’s Budget Address on 7 July 2026 (Legal Notice 230 of 2026).

Who it covers
Every employee aged 15 and over, with no lower youth rate. The Order leaves out two groups: domestic servants working in a private household, and seafarers on sea-going vessels registered in Gibraltar. It applies whether you live in Gibraltar or cross from Spain each day (see frontier workers).
How it compares with typical pay
The Government says the minimum wage is “still only 51% of average earnings”. Average gross annual earnings across all employee jobs were £39,510.90 in October 2025, and £43,276.40 for full-time jobs (Employment Survey Report 2025). The lowest-paid industry is hotels and restaurants, where full-time monthly-paid men averaged £2,067.44 a month and women £1,918.52. The survey’s single biggest pay band was £18,000 to £19,999 a year, with 3,058 jobs, around the full-time minimum wage at the time of the survey (£9.50 an hour).
What it pays after deductions
- Social insurance: employees pay 10% of gross earnings, between £14.34 and £40.79 a week, from 1 July 2026. At £390 a week that’s £39.00 a week. Employers pay 18% on top, between £31.98 and £56.22 (Income Tax Office). Employees aged 60 or over pay nothing; the employer still does.
- Income tax: income of £11,450 a year or less isn’t taxed, and there’s relief that tapers off up to £19,924. A full-time minimum wage of £20,280 is just above that, so some income tax is due. Gibraltar has two tax systems and the Income Tax Office assesses you on the one that costs less; see tax in Gibraltar for the rates.
Limits
These are the legal minimums. Many employers and collective agreements pay more, and the public sector has its own scales. If you think you’re paid below the minimum, contact the Department of Employment.

The Order leaves out domestic servants working in a private household and seafarers on sea-going vessels registered in Gibraltar.
How much is the Gibraltar minimum wage a year?

A full-time worker does. Income of £11,450 or less is not taxed, but £20,280 is above that. The employee also pays social insurance of 10% of earnings, £39.00 a week at the full-time minimum wage.
